Children's Choir Concert 2010
Enthusiastic young singers from seven junior and infant schools choirs across Sheffield reached their £2,000 target in aid of Home-Start Sheffield.
More than two hundred pupils joined forces with the Sheffield University Singers Society to take part in two choir concerts at St John’s Church, Ranmoor and gave a helping hand to children in need.
Talented Sheffield youngsters aged between five and ten, sung their hearts out when they came together to premiere the poem Yyyyyeeeeucccck which had been set to music by Robert Webb, the musical director of St John’s Church Ranmoor.
The schools which took part in the concerts were Broomhill, Greystones, Hallam, Woodseats, Ashdell, St Wilfrids, Nethern Green Infant School and St John’s Parish choir performed a medley of songs from the Wizard of Oz.
Helen Jackson, CBE, former MP for Hillsborough and President of Home Start Sheffield opened the concert and was impressed by the heartwarming participation of the school children as well as the turned out of parents.
“I was delighted that Home Start, hosted for the fifth year the children’s choir event and raised £2.000, so we can continue to run our five groups in the city which provide practical and emotional support to families,” she said.
All proceeds made will be used to help us maintain our services in Sheffield.
A massive thank you to Barbara Walsh for helping to organise the event, Robert Webb for the musical direction and Elena Menelaou for the publicity.
Stanage Stumble
The Stanage Stumble was a 25 or 10 Mile route over varied terrain on the edges of Sheffield with panoramic views over The Peak District.
The event raised over £250 and was a really great day for all involved!
