I was delighted when Home-Start asked me to be their Patron, helping them to reach out to families throughout Sheffield. At some point in our life we all need support and help, this is especially true for families with young children, the advice Home-Start can offer to these families can make all the difference in helping them through difficult periods."

Good practice in Home-Start Sheffield
The Home-Start Quality Assurance system was developed by Charities Evaluation Service (CES) as a bespoke system, incorporating all the elements of PQASSO, CES' quality assurance system for small organisations, recognised as the 'industry standard' in the voluntary sector. The system has also been designed to include and reflect the requirements of Investors in People and other national quality standards. The Quality Assurance system puts the highest support for families at its heart.
There are 16 Quality Assurance Standards in total and they cover all aspects of running a Home-Start scheme well. Home-Start Sheffield have been assessed against four of these so far, which are, 'Governance', 'Managing Money and Resources' and 'Health and Safety' and 'Supporting Families' and have passed all four, with many examples of good practice highlighted in the process.
Children's Choir concert
In March this year, thanks to the Ranmoor Children's Choir we were able to organise a Children's Choir Concert at St John's Church, which raised £460 through ticket sales and donations. Following on from this success we are now planning another Children's Choir Concert event on the 10th March 2007. We are widening participation at this event and schools across the city are being invited to perform. For more information please contact Karen Ritchie on 0114 2788377 at the

Local Supporters raise £2000
A group of 20 determined supporters have tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk in aid of Home-Start Sheffield, helping to raise vital funds for the charity. The 3 Peaks Challenge is a 25 mile walk ascending the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in North Yorkshire. To raise funds, Home-Start staff and supporters were sponsored to complete the walk in under 12 hours.
The £2000 raised on the day will go towards introducing Home-Start's much needed service back into the
North of Sheffield.
In particular, Hillsborough, Walkley, Stocksbridge and Deepcar - areas for which Home-Start Sheffield no
longer receives funding.
Home-Start Sheffield is an independent charity that supports families with young children.
Trained volunteers offer friendship and practical support in families' own homes, helping to prevent crisis and breakdown.
Co-ordinator of Home-Start, Sarah Knightley, joined the supporters in completing the walk.
She told Look Local:
“Home-Start Sheffield provides a much needed local befriending service for families with young children. We urgently need to raise as much money as we can to continue to provide a city wide service.”
The organisation believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the most important role in giving their children a good start in life - helping them to achieve their full potential.

MP Supports group after her visit
Heeley MP, Meg Munn was so impressed when she visited a Sheffield support group that she has agreed to become its patron.
